About Me

My photo
I'm an Army wife and aspiring author, published by Evernight Publishing. I primarily write M/M, but I'm starting to branch out. I'm not very good at technology, but I'm hoping this blog gives me the opportunity to communicate with other authors and readers. My life is kept interesting by my soldier, Ringo the chihuahua, and all the amazing people that I consider friends. I also work entirely too much as a coach at a local gym, a caregiver at a church nursery, and a freelance baker.

How To Explain

Many people in my life know that I am a published author, but not many know what I write. It's not a rare thing for me to have to explain it. Generally, I just say romance because that's exactly what I write.

Well...my husband and I have a new roommate and he was making conversation about my writing. He asked how much I have out there, what I'm working on, etc. Then he said those words, "I think I'd like to read it."

To which I reply, "No you don't."

He says, "What? Because it's romance? I don't think romance is girly, I read them all the time."

Well, I respond with, "The type of romance I write is the opposite of girly."

He looked confused.

I clarified, "There are no girls."

Safe to say, he got it then.

And I found a new way to explain to people what I write.

Success!

Musical Monday 8/6

Today's song is totally different from anything else I've posted.

I've been feeling super nostalgic about music lately. I used to play clarinet and bass clarinet back in my school days. I miss it more than ever. I've even started looking for an instrument, that's how much I miss it.

This piece is so moving and it holds so many memories. An American Elegy was arranged by Frank Ticheli to commemorate the victims and survivors of the Columbine school shooting. We played this at a school concert on the 10th anniversary of the event. There's really nothing that compares to being a part of something like that. You feel so connected with your fellow band members. The music moved some of the audience to tears and after the last note sounded, there was a moment of silence that can't be described.

Alright, enough of my ramblings.

6 Sentence Sunday 8/5

This is embarrassing, but it totally slipped my mind that the Lover Unexpected anthology comes out soon!
Fuck Me Right

This Sunday I'm going to share 6 sentences of my contribution to that awesome piece of amazing. So here we go:

Toby laid back and enjoyed the sensation of Craig taking his time. He winced at the addition of a third finger, but got used to it quickly. Craig starting rimming again, ensuring that Toby was really ready before he stood and freed his massive cock from his jeans. He removed a foil wrapped condom from his wallet. Toby dove forward and took the opportunity to taste Craig while the condom wrapper was being opened. Craig’s hand tangled in Toby’s hair for a moment and he grunted as he thrust his hips forward a few times.

Now, being totally honest here, I have not been writing very much lately. Like....at all. I work two jobs and I'm starting back to college soon. Even when I do have time, it's like my brain caught the dumb. So these posts won't be very frequent.

I want to do something to replace them, but I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I ask that you beautiful people comment and let me know what you think. Would you be interested if I read Fifty Shades and blogged about it? Maybe a weekly post about my adventures working at Curves? Something else? Nothing at all? Let me know. If you don't let me know, I'll assume you hate me and go cry in the bath tub.

Happy birthday, Hubby :D

Today is my awesome husband's birthday :)

We'll be celebrating later tonight, probably just going to have a few friends over for dinner and drinks. He has the mentality of an old man and doesn't want to make a big deal out of his birthday, but I do.  So I figured I'd do a little giveaway just because. The prize is your choice of a free PDF of Hero or of Snow White and the Hitman. Leave a comment and I'll pick the winner on Sunday!

All-Nighters

While I'm working on my writing it's not uncommon for me to stay up all night. Some nights (like last night) I just stay up all night staring at a screen. That's just how I operate and I might as well enjoy it while it's still an option. Sometimes, I can handle it. Sometimes....well, something like this happens.

Also, the Shameless Summer hop is still going strong, so visit my post for an excerpt from Hero and a giveaway! Follow the link: http://khwkitten2010.blogspot.com/2012/06/shameless-summer-hop-welcome-blog.html

A chat with Gweall

Gweall and I have been writing partners for a while now and we've become friends along the way. We bicker at times, but overall writing with him is a blast. I've been so lucky to get to know him, I wanted to share the privilege with all of you. So, G and I sat down for a little chat after working on our latest collaboration.

K: Describe your favorite place to write.
G: At my desk. I'm too lame for a laptop so my options are kind of limited. More specifically, I sit in front of a window. Since it's spring, there's a bird's nest outside my window and I get to watch them hatch and grow up. If I did get the option of writing anywhere I wanted to, my favorite place would by lying on a trampoline. I don't know if anybody out there has ever done it, but it's extremely relaxing and kind of puts you in this weird Zen state. Very cool.

K: What inspired you to start writing?
G: I'm not sure I was really ever inspired. I just loved to write. I remember I would just have a huge notebook full of stuff I wrote. I just never thought it was any good so I never showed anybody or finished anything. Then one day I was like "well what the fuck." and started writing on Literotica. You can't believe how shocked I was when I started getting feedback saying they were so excited to see this new author on the scene yadda yadda. I honestly thought mine would be one of those stories that was so awful the comments would send me into hospitalization they were so mean.

K: Is there a story behind your Literotica pen name?
G: Ahahaaha. Yes and no. It was a year or two ago and I was making my account on Literotica so that I could post my first story. When I had to pick a name, it was something I had never thought of. So I sat there for an hour and tried to come up with something but couldn't. So I ended up finding this sketchy ass god and goddess name generator or something weird like that. Where you type in a word, and it gives you a fake name of the god or goddess of the thing. I think I typed in love or romance or something...

K: What is your solution for writer's block?
G: Whine and cry until it goes away....

K: We've worked together quite a few times. Which of our stories do you think is the best and why?
G: That's really hard to say. I think we work really well together and everything we type out kind of morphs into gold, even though 99% of it starts out as stupid jokes. I'm really excited about our new story. I'm not sure if it's just because it's on one of my favorite topics (Zombies) or what, but It's gonna be good.

K: Without embarrassing me too bad, what is the funniest moment from our time working together?
G: Ooooh. That's a hard one. I think it's a toss up between our frying pan and pizza conversation when we were writing Hybrid Chronicles: Micah & Declan. We were joking about it since you're from Texas and I'm from the valley (California, for those of you who live under a rock) and you just typed it out like it was the most normal thing in the world and I was like 'Wtf, who does that?' and we ended up turning it into a conversation in the story. OR it's our ongoing 'you're not a ninja' joke when one of us is writing and the other is being a creeper and reading what we're writing as we write it, the second person tries to correct mistakes without being noticed. (Kitten still hasn't beaten me yet ;) )

K: I'd say we work well together. Do you think that any two authors can work together or do you think it takes a certain chemistry?
G: I think it definitely has to do with a certain chemistry. Because you and I are so similar we can joke around and bounce ideas off of each other. I've tried to work with a couple of different authors before and we cant even get past the first page!

K: What is your favorite part of collaborating?
G: I think that our collaborating ends up being 80% stupid commentary and 15% eating and 5% writing. I think all of it's my favorite. We just work so well together, it turns out great.

K: What is one thing that you think readers would be surprised to know about you?
G: Uhh... Hehe. That's a hard one. But, I think what a lot of people are surprised to know about me is that I'm...well I guess technically I'm celibate. I don't date, or have sex. People always freak out since that's what my writing is all about. It's just not for me.

K: If you could give advice to future writers, what would it be?
G: I know a lot of writers say 'Don't be afraid to get out there, nobody is a bad writer.' But that's a total lie. There are some pretty bad writers out there. What they should say is that, Don't be afraid to get out there, nobody who enjoys writing is a bad writer. The only thing you need to worry about is if you're having fun when you write. If you like to read what you write, there is DEFINITELY another person out there who will want to read it with you.

If you want to spend more time with Gweall, you can check out his blog or follow him on Twitter.

My new day job

Today I started my new job. It was on a trial basis, but they asked me back, so I'm super excited! Now, before I tell you what it is, you have to promise not to laugh (I'm pretending you just promised, so you better have done it)

...I'm working in a church nursery.

(I'm pretending you kept your promise and didn't laugh.)

I have to say, I freakin' love this job so far. There were 9 kids ranging from 5 months old to 3 years. They were all adorable and cute and sweet and they smelled like baby powder! Gah!

I spent most of the time with the 5 month old and he ended up falling asleep on me. Yeah, that pretty much made my maternal instinct kick me in the ovaries.

I'm looking forward to going back Wednesday!

International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

That's today, folks. Even though I'm not participating in a blog hop, I still think it's important for me to add my voice to that of the millions of people speaking today.

I live in Texas, in a town that doesn't have any resources readily available for the LGBT community. In an effort to change that, I started a group. We have about 20 members, but we're growing. We have big plans for activism, but I think the main purpose the group serves is to let everyone know they're not alone.

The reason I did this is pretty simple. One day, I'm going to have offspring(s). I want to be sure that when I do, if my child happens to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender etc. I will be able to say that I have and continue to fight for equality. So that if my future child is gay or lesbian, s/he can marry the one they love or if my future child is transgender s/he can express who s/he is without fear. To me, that's the best thing I can do right now.

As an author of m/m romance, there's a bit of a (for lack of a better word) stigma attached in some people's eyes. I'm getting published pretty soon and I can't even tell my father for fear of judgement. People assume there's something wrong or perverted about it, but all I write about is love.

Love is beautiful. It's the one thing that unites us. There's a lot of hate in the world, so much that it can be discouraging. That's why days like today are so important. We all need to be reminded that our love is stronger than their hate.

Just checking in

Well, the semester is over! Finally! I'm please to report that I got all A's and B's. I'm a smart cookie...

Anyway, aside from that we're still waiting to hear about whether or not my manuscript has been accepted. It should be any day now, but I'm starting to feel like it's not going to happen. However, I'm really confident that when I finally finish Hero it'll be my ticket to real author-dom (it's a thing, trust me).

On a totally related note, as someone married to the Army there will be times when we're apart. One thing that really helps with that is Skype. Now, I'm not going to reveal if I have or haven't (but I'm sure you can guess), but many, many couples that have to be separated have a little cyber nookie via Skype.

So, I want your opinion. Have you/would you ever do it? Do you think it's hot or not?

This may or may not be related to a possible teaser from Hero at the end of the week. Just sayin'

Ringo, the magnificent dumb ass!

That right there is my dog.

Ringo is a special little guy in my life. 5 pounds of pure terror. His hobbies include:
  • peeing on the carpet right next to his potty pad
  • jumping on random children at the park
  • attacking the cats
  • humping teddy bears
  • chewing up shoes/underwear/pencils/papers/everything
  • eating cat food
  • eating dog food
  • eating human food
  • howling along to the AT&T ringtone
  • running in circles
  • sleeping
I just thought I would share with you the glory that is Ringo. He's the cutest little idiot in the world. I love that little rat dog.

Wal-Mart Adventures

Today is a special day! It is the three year anniversary of my first date with my husband.

I decided to run down to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things before he got home from work, just so we wouldn't have any distractions tonight (if you know what I mean, and I think you do).

So I got about 10 items total and I went through the check out line. I noticed the cashier was giving me the strangest look. I couldn't figure out why. I was pondering this all the way home and then I realized what I had purchased...

Oh my Rowling...the lady at Wal-Mart thinks I'm a deviant...

What I'm up to now (plus tales of last weekend)

I've been pretty much MIA this week and I apologize for it. This semester is not ending fast enough (dang Baptists...). I also joined a gym because I have a giant butt. As far as writing goes, I've been working on Hero for publication. This will be what you saw on Literotica, but we go further in to the future. Once it's finished, you'll get a sneak peek, but only if you ask nice.

Since I've been so busy this week, I don't have any writings yet that I can share with you here, so I figured I'd tell you about last weekend. My husband and I went down to my hometown to visit family and while we were there we went out to dinner with my best friend and her husband.

Well, after dinner we decided we should do something else fun and well...the liquor store was right there so...you can see where this is going.

So we got back to the bestie's house and started playing a game called Across the Bridge (here are the rules: http://www.drinksmixer.com/games/2/). Well, my husband was not the luckiest at this game so I now present a collection of his most memorable quotes:

"I'm Norwegian because I'm Polish. My grandpa's Polish. I'm a viking. I raid the villages because....but the small village, the big villages kill me."

Bestie's husband: "Say the alphabet backward."
Hubby: "Y! No! YZXW...YZXW...abc...T!"

To bestie's husband: "I would spread my cheeks for you, man!" (That's my personal favorite.)

"I'm a level 30 undead warlock, bitches!" (No idea where that one came from).

"Sergeant -name- went to brigade because no one likes 1-12. I hate 1-12! I just sit in the motor pool and beat my dick for the Army like..." *mimics masturbation* "BOOM!"

"Who wants to see my wiener?"

After knocking a piece of bread out of my hand: "No! That was delicious and I ruined it!"

While I was making him drink water: "She's trying to drown me. She's water boarding me!"

And finally we ended the night with him crying after seeing my little chihuahua, Ringo, because he felt he had failed the dog because he was too drunk to play their nightly game of fetch.

Yeah, folks, that's why I married him :) Don't get too jealous now.
